
Monica Shamass is an Associate Real Estate Transactions Attorney at Liston & Tsantilis, P.C. concentrating on Commercial and Industrial Real Estate Transactions/Leasing.
Prior to joining the firm Monica regularly defended businesses and individuals in a broad range of complex real estate matters. She litigated civil matters such as tax deed proceedings, receivership, building code violations, and lien enforcement. She also headed her firm’s transactional division, gaining extensive experience in: the sales and transfers of companies, sale of properties, short sales, creation of trusts, and asset protection.
Monica also worked as a lead negotiator for a major telecom company where she drafted and negotiated master attachment agreements between corporations and Chicagoland municipalities, mayors, and city leaders.
Monica received her J.D. from DePaul University College of Law. While at DePaul, she served in many Student Bar Association positions. She also sat on committees with the Dean and other faculty. While in law school she clerked for the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration, the Public Defender’s Office, and at an insurance subrogation firm. Monica focused her studies on intellectual property law, international business and commercial law. She has participated in multiple study abroad programs including: Havana Cuba to study future foreign investment, trade, and business transactions; Madrid Spain to study European human rights law, international and European business and commercial law and was awarded a certificate from Universidad Pontificia Comillas, a university internationally ranked among the world’s best universities. Monica is trilingual, also speaking Arabic and French.
